The Dominican Republic

Cacao was first introduced to the island of Hispaniola (the current Dominican Republic and Haiti) by the Spanish at the beginning of the 17th century, mostly as an experiment. In the lee of Pico Duarte, a now dormant volcano and the tallest mountain in the Caribbean, the cacao tree thrives on the rich soil found on this island. It's from here that we source our cacao.
